Announcement: Studio Entertech Continues Partnership

The Victorian Association of Performing Arts Centres (VAPAC) is excited to announce the continuation of the VAPAC Industry Development Initiative in 2025 with support from Studio Entertech. This cross-sector project addresses the chronic shortage of technical staff in the performing arts sector, a challenge amplified by the global pandemic. The initiative brings together leaders and stakeholders from the arts, education, government, and industry to develop sustainable solutions for the workforce crisis.

“Studio Entertech is proud to be part of the VAPAC Industry Development Initiative. Over the past year, we’ve been impressed by the research, advocacy, and collaboration efforts led by VAPAC and its partners. While progress has been made, there is still work to do in securing a sustainable backstage industry. Our mission is to enable exceptional performances, and supporting this initiative aligns perfectly with our commitment to building a supportive and healthy industry for the long term.” Micah Johnson, Managing Director and Theatre Consultant at Studio Entertech

Studio Entertech brings a wealth of expertise and collaboration to this initiative. “At Studio Entertech, we enable exceptional performances. As venue design consultants, we champion theatre makers, storytellers and venue operators – ensuring they perform at their peak. Collaboration is at the core of our practice, creating a bridge between architects and operational teams to realise a shared creative vision for performance spaces, both large and small. We combine our extensive experience in local theatre with unparalleled technical expertise, attention to detail and creative excellence to deliver bespoke creative solutions”

Since its launch in 2023, the Industry Taskforce has guided this work through industry roundtable events and comprehensive strategies to support venues, artists, and audiences across Victoria. VAPAC’s Technical Managers Network continues to collaborate with industry partners, providing vital support and training to upskill technicians.

VAPAC will continue to keep its members, and the broader industry informed as this project progresses throughout 2025. Together, we are working toward a future where technical skills are nurtured and the performing arts sector thrives.
