VAPAC Announces Executive Director Patrick McCarthy to Depart

The Executive Committee of the Victorian Association of Performing Arts Centres (VAPAC) announces today the resignation of Executive Director Patrick McCarthy, who will end his tenure with the association on Friday June 14th, 2024.
VAPAC Chair Tammy Ryan said, “Patrick commenced with the organisation in 2021 and has had a considerable impact in a short amount of time. Patrick has further cemented VAPAC’s value and necessity in the industry, growing the membership considerably alongside expanding its discipline base. He instigated a number of very important projects including the Industry Development Initiative addressing workforce shortages, developing our first Equity Action Plan, and great additions to Showcase Victoria including the establishment of a dedicated First Nations Program, the Circus and Physical Theatre Initiative, and Music Menu in collaboration with Music Victoria.
Furthermore, Patrick secured new partners and sponsors who truly believe in the work that we do, along with persistent advocacy to Government and other relevant bodies to ensure that VAPAC has a voice at the table. I extend my sincere gratitude to Patrick for the passion, dedication and integrity that he has demonstrated in the role and the truly impressive impact that, with his leadership, VAPAC has had on the broader sector. It’s a big role within a tiny organisation and I’m really proud of the way that Patrick has led the organisation along with the support of the Board and the broader membership. We wish Patrick all the very best as he takes up an exciting new opportunity”.

Patrick McCarthy reflects on his time with the organisation: “It has been an incredible privilege to lead VAPAC since 2021, working with the Executive Committee, our dedicated staff, and our members to navigate this incredibly challenging and exciting time for the sector. I’m incredibly proud of what we’ve achieved. I’d like to thank everyone who has supported me and our work over the last few years, it’s been the most rewarding experience of my career so far. I know that the association is well placed to take advantage of the progress we have made together, and I can’t wait to see all the seeds we’ve planted grow over the coming years”.

Further details regarding an interim arrangement whilst the recruitment process is undertaken will be announced shortly.

We look forward to seeing you all at Showcase next week!

Warm regards,
